This triptych of miniatures was painted en plein air from my stomping grounds of Thornbury and Preston. I remember racing against time, squinting into the setting sun as I tried to capture these fleeting fragments of the Melburnian afterglow. The diminutive size of this triptych beckons the viewer in, inviting closer examination and contemplation of the last rays of sun streaming through foliage, of the dazzling glare of golden hour dissolving into the mellow blush of antitwilight, of the grace of these unnecessary gifts that mark the close of day.
