Rowan Tallant is a Melbourne-based abstract painter working in oils and acrylic. His work explores memory and emotional identity.
An emerging artist, Rowan has worked for twenty years in graphic design, illustration and motion graphics for film and television. Contrary to his career, Rowan’s art practice begins and ends in a physical and analogue form. He is inspired through the iterative process of his practice of daily sketching. On the page, ideas emerge and can be followed up, developed and a visual language emerges spontaneously.
This is the first exhibition of his work in two decades.

I create abstract geometric paintings with bold palettes in oil and acrylic that explore memory and emotional identity. My process begins simply, with pencil and paper and proceeds to canvas with precise measurements and masking in a painstaking process.
The geometric shapes and colours communicate through a language of texture, composition and association. Literal meaning or intention is not an objective. The painting is a portal, encouraging the viewer into a meditative world of self-reflection, memory, and feelings. The afterglow of human experience.
