Stephen is a self-taught photographic artist who lives and works on Wurundjeri Country in the Dandenong Ranges. Stephen’s usual practice revolves around macro, close-up, and intentional camera movement (ICM) photography prompting viewers to re-evaluate their surroundings and look a little closer at the environment. His practice weaves together a deep appreciation and understanding of nature with both realism and abstraction featuring in his vibrant visual artworks. His focus is on presenting the natural world to to the viewer in unexpected ways. Stephen’s works tend to be mind-scapes embellished in some way with in-camera techniques and/or by compositing several exposures to produce a completed image.

As well as capturing the colour changes of autumn, “Autumns’s Embrace” uses intentional camera movement (ICM) to introduce softness, blur and glow that gives atmosphere to the image. The softness is reflective of the autumn light that follows the harshness of the long spring and summer photoperiods that encourage the production of chlorophyll that mask the carotenoids and anthocyanins of foliage. Autumn can be thought of as the “afterglow” of spring and summer.
