Lissie is a maker, collaborator and activist based in Footscray whose work focuses on their lived neuro-queer experience and themes of freedom, intimacy, humour and peculiarity. Her work spans across photography, poetry, songwriting, performance art and the conception, creation and emancipation of tiny wild beasts from her imagination and the collective unconscious, with clay or wire or paper and glue or glass from the street. She loves scrambling for meaning via art and expression, whilst remaining equally devoted to ensuring the inherent meaninglessness of all things is deeply cherished. She hates writing about herself in the third person and has never written an artist statement before now, but thinks this went pretty ok.

SPUN' imagines the body as an ongoing memory, one that preserves stories and seasons and the seeds of both. It spills movement and trails of light to paint the nature of memory as residual, but also transient, unbound by time or the past but moving through presence, into the future, whatever 'future' could be. The photo was taken on a chilly day at the Persian Fair in Box Hill. I ate Sholeh Zard in a large hall and watched children behold the classical dancers on stage, perhaps seeing something of themselves, their own wriggly bodies and futures and shared past approaching, repeating, spinning.
