Megan Millsom is an experimental photographer based in Naarm, Victoria. Rather than documenting reality faithfully, her work embraces unpredictability and imperfection as essential parts of the image-making process. Through the use of double exposures, light leaks, expired film, and soup baths, Megan creates images that feel both familiar and slightly surreal.
Working primarily with analogue photography, her practice is driven by experimentation, chance, and the physicality of film itself. Chemical marks, distortion, grain, and colour shifts remain visible, allowing the process to become part of the work rather than something hidden behind it. Her photographs explore memory, atmosphere, and the emotional weight of ordinary moments. Less concerned with technical perfection, Megan’s work focuses on feeling and the way images can reshape how everyday moments are remembered.

Blurred light, saturated colour, and reflective surfaces create an atmosphere suspended between clarity and distortion, capturing the emotional residue left behind after an experience has passed.
The circular mirror at the centre reflects and fragments the surrounding light, while the experimental qualities of the film introduce softness, haze, and unpredictability. Together, these elements explore light not only as a physical presence, but as something tied to memory, atmosphere, and lingering emotion.
The overlapping portrait and landscape create an image that feels suspended between reality and recollection. Light moves across the frame in soft washes of pink, purple, and white, obscuring clear detail and turning the figure into something ghostlike and transient.
By combining multiple exposures, the image combines different spaces and times into a single frame. The analogue grain, fading light, and layered composition create a feeling of memory bleeding into the present, reflecting the lingering atmosphere and emotional residue explored within Afterglow.
