Vivienne Maher is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice explores the relationship between the seen and unseen, the internal and external, and the emotional landscapes that shape human experience. Working across photography, mixed media, and emerging painting practices, she creates work that investigates the body as both a vessel and a bridge - connecting the personal with the universal.
Driven by a fascination with emotion, presence, and perception, her work considers how we interact with the world around us, not as separate observers, but as participants within a larger living system. Through light, shadow, form, and abstraction, she explores the spaces where the physical and ethereal meet.
Her practice is an ongoing inquiry into connection, inviting viewers to consider the invisible forces that shape how we feel, relate, and exist within the world.

There is no shadow without light.
Shadow is not an opposing force, but a consequence of illumination. It is the mark light leaves behind when something stands in its path.
We are often drawn toward brightness and taught to fear darkness, yet both belong to the same source. One cannot exist without the other.
This work explores the space between presence and absence, illumination and obscurity. It considers shadow not as something lacking, but as evidence that light was here.
